Dickmann grave in Cleora Cemetery just east of Salida has the brand that is claimed on the headstone as the first recorded brand in Colorado.
Hermann Dickmann (Herman Dickman in some articles) had a ranch at Bear Creek, one of the early settlers to the area. Though he died not long after settling from pneumonia. The Salida Daily Mail published on March 29th 1884 that Mr. Hermann had lung disease and suffered an illness that resulted in his death after two weeks. He is said to have arrived in the valley in 1873 and built a cabin in Bear Creek. He and his son made the Opera house possible by investing in the valley he loved. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Stock Growers Association. The funeral was held in Craig’s Opera House on March 30th, 1884.
