Domenico Merlino is laid to rest in Union-Highland Cemetery in Florence. He died from injuries sustained working in the coal mine 3 months before his passing. A large slab of slate dislodged and hit him in the head causing a brain injury. He left this world 124 years ago on September 24th 1901.
The Angel on his headstone has long ago lost the wings. This classic style is stunning. This photo was taken during the snowstorm a few weeks ago in Florence.
