Possible sisters?

It’s up to assumption that these two stones are likely to be sisters. I can’t find any information on them, but the two stones not only match, they are both close in date.

*update – They were confirmed as sisters via newspaper articles from one of my followers on Facebook!!!

Eleanor Colwell, October 10, 1898 to June 17, 1900

Aged 1 Year, 8 Months, and 7 Days.

Dorothy Colwell, August 19, 1900 to September 10, 1901

Aged 1 Year, 23 Days.

Life is so precious. And fragile.

I looked and couldn’t find the cause of this tragedy for these especially beautiful stones. There are no other listings for Colwell’s in the cemetery. These two could have been traveling with family and not from the area as I can’t seem to find any information.

The only thing I found here was beautiful stones for small and brief beautiful lives.

May these two forever be in my thoughts, I’m sure they are remembered somewhere in history.

Lambs resting atop headstones are often a sign of infant burial.
The stone has gathered some lichens over time. These stones are very old. Photos taken today, Dec 12th, 2025.
