Mrs. D.P. Bridges, Born November 1835, Died May 1897.
This headstone has survived a very long time considering the way it is made. It is an interesting stone, nearly looking to be hollow or a plate overlaid on the main stone. Quite possibly made of sandstone by the coloring and condition, but I am not sure on that one. It is over 128 years old if it is original, the numbers are carved to almost look like 1935 and 1997. The online profile for this grave states that dates have been altered. The pillars on the corners of the family plot are all badly eroded from water and time. They look like sandstone also.
A newspaper article dated May 11, 1897 from the Florence Daily Herald reads “Mrs. D. P. Bridges, who died yesterday, was buried today, services being held this afternoon at the Methodist Church.”. Another article from the Florence Refiner states “Died – In Florence, on Monday, May 10th, Mrs. D. P. Bridges, Aged 62 years.”
Mrs. D. P. Bridges
November 1835 to May 10th 1897
Inscription Reads “When the Role is coled Up thare, il be thare.” There is another inscription at the very top about “Rise” but can’t quite make it out, even from older photos of this grave.
Rest in Peace Mrs. D.P. Bridges
