Two angels, matching markers sharing eternity next to one another. Aunt Ella and her neice Mary.

By

Mary Loens and Ella Reis, Rosita Cemetery, Rosita Colorado.

These two young ladies are buried next to one another, both of them having almost the same death date, and had the same markers.

One was the aunt, and one was the niece. The newspaper articles in the Wet Mountain Tribune for each of them states that they had both passed away from pneumonia within a few days of each other.

Mary Loens was born April 2nd, 1902. She was 17 when she passed away on February 13th, 1920. School mates came to her funeral and sang her songs, she was such a well known young lady.

Her Aunt Miss Ella Reis passed away a few days before on February 11th, 1920, after a week-long illness of pneumonia. She was born in 1892 and was around 27 years old.

The White Bronze Crosses that mark their graves are visible from quite far away and are beautiful standing in the snow next to one another. I hope they rest peacefully together. The family home was situated on Antelope and they were long time residents, Ella was born and raised in Custer County.

Mary did not have a birth location, but her family was from Germany before coming to Custer County.  Her father’s news article says that he was married and had children in Upper Antelope before passing away in 1907.

I wish them peace together.
