Devastation

Eggleston, San Isbel View Cemetery, Hillside, Colorado

6 children were lost with the last name of Eggleston in this cemetery, in April of 1879.

Walking up to these near identical stones was heartbreaking.

The Fremont County Historical Society wrote an article that 6 of the Eggleston children passed away. Theodore Darius Eggleston and Louisa Amelia Crandall Eggleston were the parents of the children. 5 of them were within days of each other, and then another, Clara was 2 weeks after.

Children of TD and LA Eggleston are engraved on the stones, except Clara, who was older and married. Theodore had already passed at this time and Louisa had already married another and was expecting a child at the time of the devastation. Her other two sons were on a wagon to visit Leadville at the time of the sickness.

This story is one of the saddest I have ever come across. There are no words to make this better or understandable. I wish them all peace in their rest.
