Hoffstat or Hoftstadt, I found it both ways linked to these graves.
Unknown Birth and Death dates listed on both profiles online for these two resting beds.
The plaque at the head of these two stones says that Arnolt and Josie Hofstadt lived in the Julius Parker Homestead from 1896 to 1902. These stones had no markings on them that could still be seen. The only discernable information on them is this plaque while at the cemetery, unless I missed something!
The style of these stones and bedstones are quite different for the cemeteries of the region, and are actually quite unique in my view so far. The name and searches suggest these may have been of German Descent and translated into different spellings.
Personally, I couldn’t muster up additional information, and I don’t want to speculate too much. This is all I know!
To no fault but my own, I am always in these areas when the local resources are closed. I just know there is more to this story than what I found.
May they both rest easy. You are not forgotten.
*Disclaimer, I’m not a historian, scholar or writer. Ask my high school teachers, they’ll confirm that. I do my best to find information and I’m always open to edits and corrections when needed. I would never post anything incorrect intentionally. I only mean to honor the lives that were with the stones and information that I can find. I have a love for cemeteries and ghost towns. Cemeteries are full of stories, sometimes I can find them, sometimes I can’t! Be respectful if visiting any of the places I share. These places won’t be around forever, especially if not treated with the utmost in respect. Want to see more? Visit our blog at listed in our Bio!
