But, there was a bus! Magnificent back road adventure, even if the bus is gone. Back Door Gulch, Texas Creek, Colorado.

But, where’d the bus go….

There’s this trail, high above Texas Creek in Colorado. In the high peaks on the south side off Highway 50. This was one of our favorite spots to visit after a long day of fabulous 4×4 roads across the river in Texas Creek recreational trail area.

The most notable feature off this trail, was a very old bus, way up the trail, laying on its side. You would round the corner and simply stare in awe at the site of the old rusted hull, laying on its side.

Bus!

In rusted, beautiful, backroad, glory, this artifact was a reminder of how tough Mining could be for those involved. This bus must have broken down on the way up, carrying a bus load of workers to the high uptop…and remained there until sometime after 2019 according to historical map satellite.

On its side…. Rusted and wonderful.

So many questions everytime we would visit, but one question always asked was how the bus got there… Now the question is where’d it go!?

Admittedly, it’s been several years since going up there. The photos used of the bus in this video were taken by me in 2017! The bus is no longer there, and barely any evidence it ever was. Just photos taken by those that have stumbled across it.

I was really devasted that it was not there. Also the oven was gone too. Everything else was as remembered.

Old Oven?
Old Oven gone…

The video really shows how high up the landing above Back Door Gulch and work area was in the last clip. This view is just as staggering as looking off the royal gorge bridge several miles down river. You know it’s far, if it seems far on video! I’ll be adding more video of this little side road to my YouTubetube soon!

Don’t wait to do the things, if you doing they could be gone!

Remnants of Mining.
Overlook, very high above Back Door Gulch.
Concrete landing.
Another landing
Carved in the overlook.
More old stuff!
That view though…
Not a bad place at all to watch the sun go down.
Lofty and gorgeous.
