New Hope
New Hope cemetery in Wetmore Colorado.

This cemetery is barely in Fremont County. It lays a few miles North of Wetmore over looking the mountains and hillsides.
Established in 1870, the first burial took place in 1871. That was the grave of Jason P. Vaughn in 1870. The baby boy was only 2 months and 13 days old. Born November 24th 1869 and died on February 7th, 1870. His grandparents were homesteaders of the Wetmore area.
According to the Descendents of Hardscrabble Park, the church was started too serve the whole community, regardless of worship. A community building and church was needed for the area.
A local school house held the first meeting and the organization of the church and grounds started.
Today there are over 500 buried on the grounds.

Disclaimer, I’m not a historian, scholar or writer. Ask my high school teachers, they’ll confirm that. I do my best to find information and I’m always open to edits and corrections when needed. I have a love for cemeteries and ghost towns. Cemeteries are full of stories, sometimes I can find them, sometimes I can’t!
