Picture Canyon near Campo Colorado is a must visit. Part of the Comanche National Grasslands, petroglyphs and inscriptions line the canyon walls.
It was super cold when we visited last year, so we will be going back to roam and visit the rest of the trails.
While the original art was amazing, there were inscriptions from many ages. Some recent, some at the turn of the 19th century, some even older. The trail signatures from the 1800s are pretty cool… the Sante Fe trail went through some of the area but not sure that it went through this canyon from any of the maps. Perhaps it was simply a lay over place from the major trails.
Pretty cool to see! Throw a rock into the pan handle of you visit and get close enough hiking!
