Sometimes we find the strangest things. And the conversations and actions that follow are even stranger.

Gardener Area

Someone’s adventure was a misadventure!

This car was on a backroad near Gardener a few years ago (October 2021). I was sure it was on Gardener Road, as we found it coming down from Greenhorn and over the mountain into Gardener. Hopefully the maps didn’t lie to us and it was Gardener Road!

Don’t get me wrong, I love all maps, some just need a little work when on backroads we have since found ones geared towards random backroads… anywho….

I bet this car has a story, but I’ve never been able to find that story. It looked as if it had been there for ages, sand was piled up on it and by the amount of rust I’d guess at least a few years. I’ve searched, photo matched and read a billion posts to no avail.

Looking on maps view now, I believe it has since been removed! I’m certain I have found that exact spot, and no car. Or I was wrong on where I had the pin saved? Not sure about that….

We were in the area a few weeks ago, but over on Badito Cone. We wondered then if the car was still there. This recent trip, we came from Greenhorn down another forest road, not the same area of the car location at all we learned. We’ll be going back to this area and seeing Turkey Creek Falls soon and catch the last forest road that we can find on maps.

The other photos are on top of Greenhorn Mountain. Beautiful!

The amount of roads coming off Greenhorn are are dumbfounding! We’ve found some awesome stuff out that way. I will say that maps can get you lost… or the operator can. You pick. Not that we were lost, we found our way out quickly a few weeks back, so it doesn’t count. 😉 We may have been on a private road momentarily thanks to maps looking like it connected to another.

Joe calls this mapping error “Adventures with Tonya…”

I don’t get us lost often when I’m the captain, but when I do there’s always “Oh, Shit! Wrong road!” followed by a quick u-turn and some hauling Jeep Ass back out the way we came. Oops. It happens…

I always say, “I can see the mountains, we’re fine….” That works 90ish percent of the time…. 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

We’ve since upgraded to more mapping options to use together as one total map.

I’ll tell you sometime about the ground owls, sage brush and backroads night drive in Rio Grande National Forest using our newly discarded old methods…

That being said, I might just go back to my old ways to drive the pilot insane, because that also happens….
